Terminus / Pro-Elite Challenge | Atlanta, GA
July 20-21, 2013
Nightlock made its first ever appearance at Terminus this year, kicking off the start of the Triple Crown Tour. Having never been to the great state of Georgia, we spent all week hydrating and filling up on electrolytes to get us through the hot and humid weekend. We were extra pumped for the weekend after finding out that our first game, against Nemesis, was going to be streamed by Ultiworld.
Saturday morning the Atlanta heat did not disappoint. Our California bodies had some difficulty adjusting to the weather but we came out strong against Nemesis. Having no coaches at Terminus, we took advantage of the live streaming and had our wonderful coach Peri Kurshan on call during time-outs and half-time to give us advice. Ultimately, we were unable to make up ground in the second half and lost to Nemesis, 9-13. We went into the second game against Capitals both mentally and physically tired. The Capitals took an early lead and won the game 7-13. After our game against the Capitals, we refocused and came out strong for our “third lap”, taking an early lead against Hot Metal. When we were up 10-7, the game was called off due to lightning warnings and we were forced to flee to our cars. We enjoyed a nice cool down lap running back to the fields in a torrential downpour to save all our bags and gear. Sadly, Katniss’s bow and arrow were swept away during the storm. Luckily, after some irresponsible hooligans fooled around with some bow and arrowing, the tournament director found it and is mailing it back to us!
After a long dinner at Olive Garden, we were refueled and ready to come out strong for Sunday. Due to the game cancellation on Saturday, we had three games to play on Sunday. Our first was against Heist, a team ranked much lower than their talent suggests. We had some difficulty finding our stride on O and stopping their powerful handlers, and wound up losing 9-13. Our next game was against Underground and we were ready to fight for a win. The game was close the whole time but Nightlock fought through and took the W with a score of 12-10. Having lost many players throughout the day to heat and injuries, our last game against Molly Brown was a challenge. Nightlock rallied for the last and had some amazing Ds throughout the game. However, it wasn’t enough to win and we ended the tournament 10-13 against Molly Brown.
Terminus was a great entrance into the Triple Crown Tournament. Although we have some work to do, the season is looking very promising. We can’t wait to dominate in Colorado in a few weeks.
