USA Ultimate National Championships | Sarasota, FL
October 25-28, 2012
With day one of nationals underway, Nightlock took the fields vs. Phoenix for our first ever nationals game. Looking fly as could be in our highly sought after jerseys we were off to a slow start. Phoenix took half 8-3, but we were not about to let this be our course for the weekend. Coming out of half as girls on fire, we went on an 8 point run while holding Phoenix at 14. Though we did not pull that one out, we went on to beat the one seed in our pool, Traffic - a feat that has not occurred in any time Jit can remember (a really long time). We ended the day 1-2 and made ourselves known - not just because of the skill we displayed, but because Peri's mom was on our sideline getting out her loudest cheers before her daughter showed up the next day with a request not to embarrass her.
After a three way tie and unfortunate point differential rules, we entered Friday with a loss, but came out of the two windiest games in history with wins 15-13 to Ozone and 14-11 to Underground. Once again, because of point differential rules we did not end up in prequarters.
Day 3 was a HUGE smack in the face... for Lily "Thud" Lin who literally got head butted in the eye and continued the weekend as Quasimoto. We took Boston's Brute Squad 10-7 and went on to face Traffic again for our last game of the weekend. Refusing to go down without a fight we came back from behind and took Traffic to universe, but did not pull out the long, windy point.
Nightlock came out of our first Nationals ever making a huge statement and coming in 10th in the nation!
Next, we obviously did what we do best and started the dance party Saturday night, were awarded "best cheerleaders" at the fields on Sunday and destroyed the Sunday party in the best way possible as potentially the only non-finals team at the event.
So so so much fun and Nightloving was had by all. We cannot wait until the 2013 reaping where we will undoubtedly volunteer as tributes again. May the Hunger Games references never get old as the odds continue to be ever in our favor!
