USA Ultimate Southwest Women’s Regionals | Ripon, CA
October 6-7, 2012
Back in June when Nightlock started off the season as an unknown, youthful, dreamy team from the Bay Area, we had several goals in mind; Most notably to play hard and grow, not as individuals, but as one unit, to love each other like family, and to MAKE NATIONALS!
Last weekend the Nightlove was pumping through our veins as we handily took our first two games against Cub Club and Venom leaving us with a lengthy bye before squaring off against Fury for the 30th time this year. We showed them a fierce, confident Nightlock they had never seen before. Though a stroke of debatably too much confidence came when we threw zone with only six players on the field. It was admittedly not our best strategy, but something we were willing risk for a shot at glory. After our best battle of the bay yet we went on from our 11-15 deficit to face Rally in the semi final game.
Pumped from our awesome game against Fury, we came at Rally with high energy, seeking revenge from Sectionals. Tensions were high, but we came out victorious and prepared to face Fury again in finals Sunday morning.
Saturday night we gritted through ice baths, stormed Twitter feeds everywhere and were lucky enough to experience a 6 AM fire alarm in the hotel. Note: Everyone in the entire hotel evacuated, save Peri who very characteristically is not phased by such nonsense.
Sunday morning came, and after a second alarm we were fired up (see what we did there?) and ready to face Fury in the finals. Fury fought hard for the one seed and stuck around for our game-to-go win vs. Safari.
After Nightlock and dropping all over the field in celebration, we are SO READY to get to the arena! Be it known we see it as no coincidence that we are seeded (District) 13 - a district no one knew existed, but secretly and sneakily plotted their takeover of the capitol. Bring it, gamemakers!
