History & Values

We love the game and play with heart, discipline, and joy. We value a relentless work ethic and challenge each other to be our best. To achieve our goals, we blend together an endless drive to compete at an elite level with an equally important component – support for one another. The team was founded in 2012 by Ashley Black, Abby VanMuijen, and Heather Waugh when the retirement announcement of two women’s teams left the Bay Area with only one women’s team option, and one is not enough! We draw talent from all over the Bay Area, recruiting a mixture of recent grads from local schools like Cal-Berkeley, UC-Davis, Stanford, and UC-Santa Cruz; as well as a mix of other women from various teams/locations. Nightlock has both qualified for and broken seed at the the USA Ultimate National Championships in all three years of its existence, and in this past year’s 2014 tournament, we finished in the top 8 teams, which means we’ll be participating in the Pro Flight (of the USAU Triple Crown Tour) for the first time during the 2015 season.
